Dragon Spirit (ドラゴンスピリット, Doragon Supiritto?) is a 1987 vertical scrolling shooter arcade game released by Namco and Atari Games (in the US). It runs on Namco System 1 hardware, and was later ported to the Amstrad CPC, Commodore Amiga, Commodore 64, DOS, Atari ST, X68000, PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 and ZX Spectrum platforms.

Dragon Quest (ドラゴンクエスト, Doragon Kuesuto?), known as Dragon Warrior in the USA, is the first role-playing video game (RPG) in the Dragon Quest media franchise. It was developed by Chunsoft for the Family Computer (known in Japan as the Famicom) and published by Enix in Japan in 1986. Dragon Warrior has been ported and remade for several video game platforms, including the MSX, PC-9801, X68000, Super Famicom, Game Boy Color, and mobile phones. A version of the game for Android and iOS has been released in Japan on November 28, 2013. During the game, players control a hero character who is charged with saving the kingdom of Alefgard and rescuing its princess from the antagonistic Dragonlord. Dragon Warrior's story later became the second part in a trilogy that encompasses the first three games in the series. Several anime and manga, which revolved around this overarching plot, were created. Two of the manga take place between the events in Dragon Warrior and its prequel Dragon Warrior III. The game was created by Yuji Horii, who took inspiration from previous RPGs such as Wizardry, Ultima, and his own 1983 title The Portopia Serial Murder Case. Horii wanted to create an RPG which would appeal to a wide audience of people who were unfamiliar with the genre or video games in general, place a greater emphasis than other RPGs on storytelling and emotional involvement, and expose the mainly Western genre to Japan. Manga artist and Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama produced the game's artwork and Koichi Sugiyama composed its music. The North American localization released in 1989 featured numerous changes, including battery-backed RAM save games (rather than using a password save system), modified character sprites and pseudo-Elizabethan English style dialog. Dragon Quest was commercially successful in Japan; its release as Dragon Warrior in North America was less favorably received. Later, Western critics noted the game's shortcomings but acknowledged its importance to the genre. Its original pseudo-Elizabethan English script has been praised in many of these reviews. Fan-made ROM hacks were released with substantial changes to the game. The game's sound effects have also been orchestrated, and its music has been performed at numerous concerts. As a whole, Dragon Warrior has been credited with establishing the basic template for the Japanese console RPGs that followed.

Dragon Warrior II, known as Dragon Quest II: Akuryou no Kamigami (ドラゴンクエストII 悪霊の神々?, lit. "Dragon Quest II: Gods of the Evil Spirits") in Japan, is a role-playing video game (RPG) developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix (now known as Square Enix) in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System as a part of the Dragon Quest series. Enix themselves created the American version of Dragon Quest II, publishing the game there in 1990.[3] Dragon Quest II is set 100 years after the events of the first game. The game's story centers on the prince of Midenhall, who is ordered to stop an evil wizard named Hargon after Hargon destroys Moonbrooke Castle. On his adventure, he is accompanied by his two cousins; the prince of Cannock and the princess of Moonbrooke. Dragon Quest II greatly expands on the series formula from the first game by having a larger party, more areas to explore, multiple heroes and enemies in a battle, and a sailing ship. Dragon Warrior II was successful in Japan; the original Famicom version shipped 2.4 million copies. Later, the game was remade for the Super Famicom and the Game Boy Color with Dragon Warrior as Dragon Quest I & II. A version of the game for Android and iOS has been announced for release in Japan in Winter 2014.[2] The third title in the series, Dragon Quest III: And Into the Legend..., was released in 1988 in Japan.[4] Dragon Warrior III is the prequel of the first two games; it follows the ancestor of the main characters, the legendary hero Erdrick;[5] the three games are collectively called "Erdrick's Legend Trilogy".

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, known in Japan as Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu e... (ドラゴンクエストIII そして伝説へ… Doragon Kuesuto Surī - Soshite Densetsu e...?, Dragon Quest III: And thus into Legend...) and previously released as Dragon Warrior III in North America, is a role-playing video game developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix (now Square Enix). It is the third installment in the Dragon Quest series (known as Dragon Warrior in North America at the time of its original release) and the first released for the Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan and later for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in North America. The game saw an enhanced remake for the Super Famicom (the Japanese version of the Super NES) in 1996 and the Game Boy Color in 2001, and a port to mobile phones and the Wii in 2009 and 2011. A version of the game for Android and iOS was released in Japan on September 25, 2014, and worldwide on December 4, 2014 as Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. It was the first time the game was given an official English subtitle.The first three Dragon Quest games are part of the same story, and Dragon Warrior III is the first game chronologically, as well as the third game that features the hero Erdrick (Loto in some remakes). The story follows "the Hero" who is tasked with saving the world from the archfiend Baramos. Gathering a group of companions into a party, the Hero must travel the world, stopping at various towns and locations, and find his way to the Demon Lord Baramos's lair.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (ドラゴンクエストIV 導かれし者たち Doragon Kuesuto Fō Michibikareshi Monotachi?, lit. "Dragon Quest IV: The Guided Ones"), known in English speaking parts of Europe and in Australia as Dragon Quest: The Chapters of the Chosen (Nintendo DS) and originally published as Dragon Warrior IV for the NES version in North America, is a role-playing video game and the fourth installment of the Dragon Quest video game series developed by Chunsoftand published by Enix (now Square Enix). It was originally released for the Famicom on 11 February 1990 in Japan. A North American version followed in October 1992, and would be the last Dragon Quest game localized and published by Enix's Enix America Corporation subsidiary prior to its closure in November 1995, as well as the last Dragon Quest game to be localized into English prior to the localization of Dragon Warrior Monsters in December 1999. The game was remade by Heartbeat for thePlayStation, which eventually was available as an Ultimate Hits title. This was followed with a second remake developed by ArtePiazza for the Nintendo DS, released in Japan on 22 November 2007. This remake was released in Australia on 11 September 2008, in Europe on 12 September 2008 and in North America on September 16, 2008. A version based on the Nintendo DS remake for Android and iOS was released in 2014.Dragon Quest IV differs from the rest of the series by breaking up the game into five distinct chapters, each of which focuses on a different protagonist or protagonists. The first four are told from the perspective of the Hero's future companions and the fifth one, from the hero's perspective, brings all the characters together as they start their journey to save the world. The PlayStation remake adds a sixth chapter, which is retained in the DS remake.

Dragon's Lair (ドラゴンズレア Doragonzu Rea?) is based on the laserdisc game of the same name; it is a 1990 platformer released for the Nintendo Entertainment System and developed by the MotiveTime group. Plotwise, the game is identical to the original.

Dungeon Magic, known in Europe and Japan as Light Bringer (ライトブリンガー?), is a 1994 arcade game by Taito Corporation Japan and it also included in Taito Legends 2. Unlike most medieval/fantasy beat 'em ups, it featured an isometric viewing angle, some platforming (usually involving players stacking rocks or crates to climb on and jump to treasure chests), unusually large stylised sprites, and variable blood/gore settings.
